THE APOTHECARY

The Apothecary garden was a collaboration with Fathom Trust, and supported by the National Garden Scheme. My role involved designing and creating the garden as part of a green social prescribing project connecting local community members through GP referral pathways, and other partner organisations, including PAVO, local dementia support groups, and South Powys Mind.

Through a series of participatory sessions, the apothecary centred shared growing, tending, and gathering as practices of care and connection. Through gaining plant knowledge, and through the experience of being in relationship with the seasons and cycles of a garden, the apothecary sessions offered opportunities for personal and collective renewal, and a deeper sense of belonging within the local community and surrounding landscape.

"The shift for me is from can't do to can do. My anxiety is mellowed when i'm here. Also, everyone has 'stuff' no matter what it is. We all have our own things to manage. Part of the healing is to realise that I'm not alone."
